Whilst I am still buzzing from finding a Ginger Kongo lets get back to modding. I am sure most of you remember the ‘Winter Modding Competition’. I had never entered a modding competition before so I thought I may as well give it a go, I had nothing to lose after all.
The theme was winter, and I had never made a bear to fit a theme other than my own before, so this was something a little different. Now when I think of Winter I think of Christmas, presents, presents and more presents! Rather than create a bear with loads of presents I thought why not create a bear as a present.
For this mod it was essential I choose the right bear to begin with, I decided Monty was ideal as he was already very smooth and ‘wrapped up’ so to speak. I set about smoothing every single scale out of the original design by giving the whole thing a skim of car body filler and sanding out every imperfection I could find. This was the first time I had used filler and it worked well, it also made a nice change from working with clay! I would advise that you only

I painted the bear using Plasti-kote fast dry enamel. In my case ‘fast dry’ should have read as ‘tacky within a week’. I applied the paint rather thickly to get a perfect smooth finish and it really did take over a week to dry! At the same time I had picked out other ‘presents’ that would sit around the bear and painted them the same colour.
The finishing touches were applied using ribbon and a bow. In hindsight I think the bow is too big but it can also be seen as being humorous I guess.
And that was that, I liked the bear but decided it may not win me any prizes! My next attempt was going to be something a little more sexual.
Tune in tomorrow! :)
